The Architects Collective is a group of designers working to enrich lives through the practice of architecture.

Based in Los Angeles, The Architects Collective (TAC) works with project owners to design multi-unit housing projects.  We apply diverse areas of expertise and rigorous approaches to project analysis, design and implementation.  Through our collaborative approach, both the design process and solutions are nuanced and multi-layered, striking a balance between high efficiency and exceptional design.

Collaboration and Context

TAC works collaboratively with real estate developers, public agencies, consultants, contractors and communities to design and implement places of dwelling.  A clear expression of project vision, intent, program and context, we aim for our projects to become places of meaning for residents.  Drawing inspiration from the mild climate and diverse cultures of Los Angeles, we design buildings that inventively apply appropriate building systems, are highly functional and facilitate meaningful interactions.

 Function

Everyone deserves a decent place to live.  We apply decades of design and construction administration experience to testing and enhancing the qualities that compose highly-functional apartment buildings.  Such a building not only serves merely as shelter; it is a place where people build their lives.  It provides an engaging sequence of spaces, access to the outdoors, ample natural light, fresh air and energy efficiency.  Our projects generate a sense of safety, dignity, comfort and pride in residents.

 Community

We strive to accomplish more than housing people; through our projects, we aim to engender community and enhance neighborhoods.  When people enjoy interacting with their neighbors, community cohesion and pride grows.  In many of our affordable housing projects, community-supportive programming and services, such as arts, fitness, health and education programs, are embedded in the project.  Service providers deliver discreet and complimentary services, thus supporting residents to make positive changes in their lives.

 Materials and Methods

Well-conceived building design includes the appropriate and inventive application of building systems.  We are adept at applying building materials and methods endemic to the Los Angeles region in imaginative ways that yield extraordinary solutions.  Through our knowledge of building systems and their relative benefits and costs we seek to maximize cost effectiveness.  In doing so, we aim to implement environmentally-responsible design and the high-quality materials within the project budget.  Our portfolio includes USGBC LEED Platinum and LEED Gold buildings.

 Factory-Built Modular Construction

TAC is at the vanguard of modular housing construction in Los Angeles.  We adeptly employ the benefits of this construction method in project design, exploiting its characteristics, parameters and criteria to design inventive solutions.  The benefits of modular construction include:  1) Reduced project timelines, 2) Reduced construction delays and material escalation, 3) Lower labor costs, 4) Factory installation of interior finishes, 5) Reduction of construction noise, 6) Quickly secured building, 7) Homes brought to market sooner.

TAC is led by Richard Prantis, AIA, LEED AP.  Our projects have been recognized with awards by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), 55+ Housing Council and the National Association of Home Builders.

TAC is a certified Small Business (Micro) by CA DGS and both MBE and Local Small Business Enterprise by the County of Los Angeles.
